Residents praise truck driver for steering truck into gutter to avert disaster at Anoe
Residents of Anoe, a suburb of Kojokrom in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, were left in shock after an articulated truck loaded with quarry stones veered off a steep slope and crashed into a gutter.
The truck, which was heading to a nearby construction site, reportedly failed to climb the hill after getting sandwiched between two taxis. According to eyewitnesses, the taxi ahead of the heavy-duty vehicle struggled to ascend the steep, forcing the truck to stall mid-way. The delay caused the truck to lose momentum and begun descending the slope in reverse.
Western Region Correspondent for TV 3, Stephen Cudjoe reports that in a desperate attempt to prevent a major disaster, the driver skillfully steered the truck into a roadside gutter, bursting two tyres in the process.
"Fortunately, no casualties were recorded," he wrote on his Facebook wall.
Eyewitnesses have commended the driver’s quick thinking, noting that his action likely prevented a fatal accident.
The incident has reignited long-standing concerns among residents over the dangerous nature of the slope.
