Ghana's Foreign Affairs Minister arrives in Cote D'Ivoire to visit Ghanaians seeking asylum
Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has arrived in Abidjan Cote D’Ivoire ahead of his visit to the asylum site providing shelter for over thirteen thousand (13,000) Ghanaians who are fleeing the recent clashes in Gbinyiri in the Savana region of Ghana into neighboring Ivory Coast.
The clashes have displaced over forty thousand (40,000) residents of the area some of whom have sought refuge in neighboring towns in that country.
When he arrived in Abidjan, he visited his Ivorian counterpart to call on him officially before he embarks on his trip to the sites hosting these Ghanaians.
"I have arrived in Côte d’Ivoire today for a two-day working visit which focuses on the welfare of Ghanaians who fled a recent communal conflict in Gbinyiri.
I am grateful to my dear brother, Foreign Minister, H.E. Kacou Houadja Léon Adom for welcoming me at the airport, and for his exceptional hospitality.
The welfare and safety of all Ghanaians everywhere in the world shall continue to be a priority of the Mahama Administration," he wrote on his Facebook wall.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa moved to Ivory Coast straight from attending an international forum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
