Galamsey: Illegal miners start filling mined area in Ahanta West
Illegal small-scale miners operating in Boekrom, a farming town of the Ahanta West municipality of the Western Region, have begun filling up an area they have illegally exploited. This is coming on the back of an instruction from the Municipal Chief Executive for Ahanta West, Ebenezer Kofi Aidoo a week ago.
This has been revealed by the MCE on his Facebook wall. According to him this reaffirms his resolve to deal with the menace that is ravaging the environment like has never happened before in Ghana.
When the MCE visited this site sometime back, he was visibly shaken and angry at the level of destruction that the illegal miners had done to the area around the Boekrom bridge. He ordered them miners to end their operations and to cover the whole area as part of restoring the land to its original form.

Writing on his Facebook wall concerning the update from the site, he stated "just a week ago, I halted an illegal mining operation near the Boekrom bridge, giving the miners an ultimatum to fill and reclaim the land. I am pleased to say that they have made significant progress, filling all the pits and nearly completing the reclamation work. We will continue fight to against Illegal Mining and make Ahanta West Municipal a great place to be".
